We keep coming back because Swang Cottage feels like a real home, full of little cosy touches. The hearts in the decor make it feel especially loved. There's a fully equipped kitchen, enclosed garden, hot tub and two log burners, and the internet was fast, though we didn't stream much. It's close to Whitby, a great base for exploring the North York Moors, and right on the Coast to Coast path. Swang Cottage is on the far side of Glaisdale from the train station, but the walk up is gorgeous. We recommend stopping at the butcher: the bacon and sausages were the best we'd had in ages, and the pies were amazing. There's nature everywhere, and we spent ages looking out of the windows. During our March visit, we woke to lambs in the neighbouring field. I also saw my first adder while trying fell running on the moors. It's my favourite home from home.

We booked through an online agent but couldn't stay. The owner said we could rebook, so we didn't cancel. After the date had passed, we couldn't get in touch with the owner, who kept the full booking fee, including cleaning, even though we never stayed. I'm sure the cottage is nice, but the owner should stand by what they say.
