Buchanan Arms Hotel & Spa

We’ve stayed here a few times and it’s always been good. The lounge is comfortable, and the staff provide very good service. This time we had a clean, spacious king room with a comfy bed and a good night’s sleep. We ate elsewhere and didn’t use the spa, so I can’t comment on either. We’ll definitely return and may try the facilities next time.

We had a good night’s sleep in our spacious, clean room, with a comfy bed. Check-in was easy, and I had a nice night with my husband. Afterwards we enjoyed a few drinks in the little bar, which has comfy couches. We used the spa before dinner, but the heating wasn’t working, so the changing rooms were cold and the shower water was cold too. Dinner was okay, though the menu was basic. Breakfast was buffet style, but the cooked food was stone cold and the coffee was lukewarm. We’d stay again, but eat elsewhere.

The staff made our family’s annual Christmas trip to see Santa so special. We were a party of 11 kids and 15 adults, staying for the Woodlands experience in 2026. The bar and reception teams, along with the people who coordinated the booking, meals and logistics, were amazing. Everything we asked for was arranged easily. The meals were great and served when we needed them, and the children were well looked after with their likes and dislikes. The conservatory was set up for dinner, then later for cheese platters and drinks while the family exchanged Secret Santa presents. My husband dressed as Santa and my grandson as Buddy the Elf, and the hotel let us enjoy the occasion. The pool was a bonus, a good size and lovely and clean, with a smashing spectator area. The young man on shift on Sunday morning looked after us well, and we really appreciated the lovely coffees he brought to our tables. The rooms need an upgrade, but the beds were comfy and the sheets and towels super clean. Housekeeping quickly sorted out what we needed. Thanks to everyone, the whole family had a blast and was already planning next year. Have a Merry Xmas.

We got lucky and found a table at the Clachan Inn down the road, since the hotel restaurant was fully booked the night we stayed. We hadn’t made dinner reservations and didn’t know we should have booked ahead. The room was okay, though the shower’s small glass panel let a lot of water leak out and the water didn’t stay consistently hot while I was bathing. Still, it was a lovely one-night stay and I’d come back.
