The rooms themselves are lovely, but the stay felt impersonal and disappointing. On the stairs we could hear staff shouting, swearing and arguing. When we came back after getting married, there wasn’t even a card or message congratulating us. Our mini-break hotel in Oban had found out we’d just married and gave us a card, glasses and prosecco, which made the contrast noticeable. At checkout we didn’t see anyone either. We’d booked three rooms together so friends and family could get ready with me on my wedding day. Breakfast was included and was meant to be brought to the room, but by 09.30 we were all starving, so I had to go downstairs and carry some up myself over all those winding stairs. The food wasn’t great: stale soda bread, sour berries, yoghurt and muesli that weren’t particularly nice. I’d also assumed they’d provide a few more glasses for our family and friends, but they didn’t.
