The room was nice, with a massive TV, and the bed and sofa bed were comfortable. The sofa bed had clean bedding already made up. The shower room and toilet were huge and spotless. I did find a little pile of dust on the carpet behind the sofa bed, but only after moving it so we could all watch the TV from our beds. The guy at the front desk who checked us in was top class. I didn’t catch his name, but he had a black ponytail and glasses. He was really nice, chatted with the kids, and asked why we were there. When we said it was for the James Arthur gig, he went online and showed us that the gig was definitely on that night, after James Arthur had cancelled the night before. Check-in was simple. I’d definitely stay again, especially for a gig at the Hydro.

The lobby was my favorite part, huge, with lots of comfortable seating where you can relax. The hotel itself is spacious, modern and clean. It’s also in a fantastic spot, just a short walk from the River Clyde and Glasgow’s iconic bridges, which made exploring the city easy. There was one small hassle when our group tour arrived. Unloading luggage from the coach was tricky because it had to pull partly onto the road and tilted a little. Otherwise, everything about the hotel was excellent.

Parking was the worst part for me. The hotel concession is £12 overnight, but if you take your car out and come back within 24 hours, you have to pay that charge again for every re-entry. It’s probably the poorest hotel parking setup I’ve come across. The location is good, though, with easy transport access and the usual attractions within walking distance. The rooms were decent enough and housekeeping had kept them clean, but they felt a little tired, with marks and stains around. I also wasn’t keen on the toilet or the frosted, transparent bathroom door and surround. Breakfast had a good selection and the staff service was good.

Dogs are welcome, which deserves a massive thumbs up. The room was light, airy and clean, and I loved the hotel’s location. Breakfast was really good with a big selection, though a little pricey. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Once I was able to stay, the room was fantastic, the food was great and the staff were friendly. It’s a shame the first night went so badly. I was booked for three business nights, with three rooms reserved under our MD’s name by my MD’s PA. After watching Scotland qualify for the World Cup, I arrived and was told I couldn’t have a room because the person named on the booking wasn’t with me. My two colleagues had managed to access the booking. I made the mistake of having a drink, my first one, while they tried to sort things out. Even after I shared the booking details and several emails, I was told I couldn’t stay. I had to find another room in the city, which cost £350 for one night. I returned the next day and stayed for the remaining two nights.
