The spa was lovely, and we enjoyed the social hour. It would have been nice if guests mixed more, as most people seemed to keep to their own company, though the staff did chat with us. The main restaurant was closed during our stay, but the bar staff were so friendly in the evenings, and I felt comfortable going down on my own. Margarita checked us in and made us feel like the most important people in the hotel throughout our stay. The two concierge gentlemen were fantastic too. I’m sorry I can’t remember their names, because they deserve a special mention. We felt very welcome and looked after.

We had one of our first nights away without our child here, and everything about the stay was first class. The spa could use more loungers, but that’s my only complaint. The staff were amazing, especially Margarita at reception. We’ll definitely be back.

The food at breakfast was impressive, with plenty of cured meats, smoked fish, fruit, pastries and bread, plus Scottish butter and fixings for bucks fizz and virgin bloody marys. The public rooms feel opulent but still inviting, and there’s a free wine social hour in the lobby at 5pm each day. It seems like a nice way for solo travellers to meet other guests. There’s a strong sense of place throughout. The hotel looks onto the gardens of Blythswood Square and is only a few minutes from the city centre. It was once three Georgian townhouses, then the Royal Scottish Automobile Club, and the classic features still sit alongside contemporary touches. Harris Tweed appears on the cinema seats and elsewhere, with tweed ‘tails’ draped over chairs in the breakfast salon as a nod to the club’s members. The spa is a real highlight, especially the snow shower, which has to be seen to be believed. There are also thermal rooms, pools, a Himalayan rock salt lined relaxation room and a small gym, all free for hotel guests. Bedrooms are luxurious, with Egyptian cotton bedding, marble bathrooms and smart use of space. The gin and tonic setup on arrival, complete with fresh ice and sliced citrus, is a thoughtful touch, as is the fan of newspapers laid out in the lobby each morning. Reception staff are friendly and know the area well. If you want more space for a longer visit, the penthouse is a two bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and bar, a huge marble bathroom with a sunken bath, and a private outdoor terrace. All in all, it’s arguably Glasgow’s best hotel.

The massage was spot on, with just the right pressure. I nodded off, so that’s a 10/10 from me. Afterwards, the mushroom parfait, medium rare steak and oysters were all amazing. We travelled from Aberdeen for a spa day, and it was absolutely worth it. The snow room is a winner by itself, and the staff made it easy to find our way around and settle in. Best day we’ve had in ages. Can’t wait to come back for an excuse.

The complimentary spa hours are worth using. I wish I’d gone more often. My stay was great and worth what I paid, though I did find a few loose hairs from someone else, either housekeepers or previous guests. I really hate that. Brian, Kate, and Florence (like the city) made the stay worthwhile, with a welcoming attitude and lots of knowledge. I’ll be coming back. Sorry about the mess in the lobby, guys, it was a total accident. Thanks for dealing with it. Enish down the block was a big bonus for the location. It was great to have a taste of home just a few steps away. On arrival night, the neighbors had obnoxiously loud sex and I couldn’t sleep. I’m all for people having fun, but please be mindful of those around you. The walls weren’t thin, and I know this was out of the hotel’s control, but it still frustrated me and seemed worth mentioning. Future guests, just keep it in mind.
