The location was perfect and breakfast was nice, but we’ll probably stay somewhere else next time we’re in Glasgow. We paid £226 for two nights, four breakfasts and early check-in, which was a good price for the area. The room smelled musty when we first went in. The window wouldn’t open, there was no radiator, and it was cold. Once I got into bed, I could smell the damp whenever I moved. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was definitely there, and I couldn’t stop wondering whether the mattress, duvet or pillows were damp too. That made it hard to settle, and I slept badly. We already have to put the thought of thousands of other people having slept in the bed out of mind, without worrying about why it smells damp. We ate in the restaurant one of our two nights. The two women serving were pleasant enough, but after sitting there for 20 minutes and hearing them talking loudly in the breakfast area, we had to go ask for our drinks. The food was okay for the price. Even with only four other people there, they kept walking past our empty plates without clearing them. We couldn’t use the self-check-in screens before 3pm, but we’d paid for early check-in, so a friendly lad at the bar checked us in and suggested some good bars and restaurants.

This was the worst Premier Inn I’ve stayed in, and I’ve just spent two nights here. Our self check-in worked, but the key card for room 229 didn’t, so we had to go back to reception. The response was, “Oh, sometimes that happens.” When we opened the door, there was an overpowering damp, mouldy smell. The bed hadn’t been made to the usual standard, the duvet cover was crooked and the linen felt damp. The window sill was covered in water and condensation, with black mould on the windows. We went straight back down to complain and ask for another room. The receptionist said it was an ongoing issue known to head office, but they were still letting the rooms out. She wasn’t sure if another room would be better and gave us another set of key cards. The second room was better, but the heating was dreadful and very out of date, and the windows wouldn’t open. There was a switch for the shower room fan, but good luck finding it. The mirror took ages to clear after a shower, and condensation dripped around the room and took a long time to go away. There wasn’t enough toilet paper for two people for two days, and the cleaning staff weren’t in during our short stay to top it up. Breakfast was chaotic, with food not replenished quickly enough to enjoy the full breakfast. It seemed they were very short staffed. The £15 early check-in fee is a joke and a con. If a room is ready and free, people should be allowed to check in early. I’ll be complaining to head office, and I’ll never stay here again. This has put me off booking with Premeir Inn in future. If I’d had the choice, I wouldn’t even have given one star.

I stayed in two different rooms, and both had a strong mould smell. You could see mould on the curtains. The good location and nice breakfast are why I’m giving it two stars.

We usually book Premier Inn Sauchiehall st, but tried this one for a change and weren’t disappointed. I wasn’t keen on the self check-in and would rather be welcomed at a desk by a person. The rooms were clean, if a little worn, and had a nice walk-in shower. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. I have food allergies, and they reassured me about those; the food was tasty and cooked very well. I think we’ll stay here again on our next trip to Glasgow.

The restaurant staff were very nice and helpful. We didn’t ask to change rooms because we were out most of the time, but our room had serious condensation on the large windows, which were dripping after only a few hours in near-freezing weather. There was mould in large patches on the ceiling above the window and around the frame, and no ventilation in the room. The heater was set to 17C and couldn’t be adjusted, so I had to ask reception to raise the temperature. The bathroom wasn’t properly clean: it looked like it had been dusted rather than cleaned with chemicals. Bring slippers, because the carpet turned my socks black. We’ve stayed at this hotel many times over the last 20 years, so we can compare. Cleaning standards at Premier Inn in general have been a major problem since the Brexit.
