The Clyde Hotel

The breakfast has a good variety, and they serve a fresh mushroom dish every day that’s cooked beautifully. It’s my favourite. The rooms are comfortable, and the place is lovely, close to the beautiful River Clyde and only minutes from the city center. Staff and cleaning service greet you with a distinctive smile. Rooms are cleaned on average twice per week. I’d ask for a small refrigerator in the room to keep drinks. I recommend giving the place a try.

As a woman, I found this intimidating and frightening, and I won’t ever set foot in this hotel again. A man tried our door, and I ended up sleeping with a chair behind it because I was afraid someone would try it again. Only one lift was working, there was blood around the door frame, and paint was peeling in parts of the room. The breakfast restaurant was horrible and intimidating too, with chairs stacked on tables. The sausages looked awful, pale and undercooked. We left and went somewhere else for breakfast. From our window, all we could see were cigarette ends lying around. My advice is, don’t stay here. I repeat, don’t stay here, especially if you’re female.

We only booked at the last minute and stayed one day before our flight, but it was a comfortable way to finish the trip. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were helpful. It’s reasonably close to the center and to a bus stop for the airport express. Really good for the price.

The Clyde Hotel is dirty and poorly kept, and the management seems confused, changing the rules whenever it suits them. By 3pm there were no housekeeping staff. I’m sure they’re trying to keep overheads as low as possible while collecting as much council money as they can. Some staff are rude. They keep disturbing you even with a do not disturb sign on your door, and may ask you to leave your room so they can talk at a time that suits them. For basic amenities the hotel is obliged to provide, they expect you to go to reception and collect them yourself. What a joke. There’s no mini bar or fridge in the rooms, which feels so outdated. Honestly, it should be called a hostel, not a hotel. If you want somewhere clean, quiet and friendly, don’t put the clyde on your list. The worst hotel ever.
