Beechwood Cottage B&B

The cleanliness, very good breakfast and lovely hostess would have made this a five-star B&B for us, but the host’s manner coloured the whole visit. He carried our bags upstairs, then spent at least 15 minutes going through rules, even demonstrating the windows and front-door key. When he asked about dinner bookings and we said we hadn’t made any, he got agitated and scolded us for ignoring his emails. He warned that we might not find food anywhere, and kept returning to this sort of “do it this way or disaster will follow” message. He also spoke dismissively about a well-known local restaurant. His dire predictions came to nothing: we found food, and that restaurant was wonderful. Still, being spoken to like a disobedient child when I’m paying did not sit well with me and tainted our time in the area. I wouldn’t return.

A storm hit while we were there, taking out the power and mobile service, and Jackie and Iain kept us informed and handled it as well as they could. Iain even lent my husband waterproof over-trousers for a short walk and a large golf umbrella. They’re caring, friendly hosts who clearly take pride in the property and guests’ experience. The rooms are spacious and cosy, with large bathrooms; the Wi-Fi was great, and the two sweet kitties came over to say hello. We’re vegan, and they easily catered for us with a full hot breakfast as well as the cold buffet. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend them if you’re in Glencoe.

Our room was spotless, the view was amazing, and breakfast the next morning was lovely. The owners were so friendly and helpful, and their two cats were very sweet. At first, some of the spooky decorations outside caught us off guard, but we came to see them as cute, quirky touches. We had a really nice stay.

The cooked breakfasts were a real highlight, and I’ll miss Jackie’s cooking. As a young woman travelling alone in the Highlands for the first time, I felt at home and very well looked after. Jackie and Iain made sure I knew how to reach nearby landmarks and shared helpful local dining suggestions. The house is spotless and comfortable, with lovely spacious rooms and tasteful decor. They’re a delightful couple and such thoughtful hosts; you can tell they love what they do. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would absolutely recommend it. Thanks, Jackie and Iain, for making it so memorable.
