We spent three nights here as a couple and got to check in earlier than planned, which was great. Swaredale Lodge was immaculate and very modern, and the hot tub was lovely. It’s a quiet area, with a nice drive out to Windermere. I’d highly recommend it.

The area is beautiful, and Cartmel village is friendly, with lovely pubs and restaurants. Sadly, our stay at Meadows end lodges was disappointing. We were in the Romney lodge from the 11th of August. I wouldn’t call it pet friendly, as there are gaps in the fences, which look like pallets. The decor inside is very dated and needs updating. On Monday, when we arrived, there was a damp, musty smell. Opening the doors and windows didn’t clear it, so I messaged Rachel, who was handling things for me. She came round at about 8 that evening, said she couldn’t smell anything, gave us air fresheners and asked us to let her know in the morning. The smell was still there, and the maintenance lads also said they couldn’t smell it. We went out for the day, but it was still there when we got back. I reported it again, and it turned out there was a problem with one of the pipes underneath, which they fixed. I felt like a hindrance and got the impression they didn’t believe me, which was really disappointing. I phoned Hoseasons last Friday to complain, but haven’t had a reply. I’m really unhappy and definitely wouldn’t stay at Meadows End lodges again.

We had another peaceful, enjoyable break, and the hot tub was lovely. This was our second visit, first in shaun Lodge and now in Ryeland lodge, but Ryeland could use some attention to detail. The decor needs work, the reclining three seater sofa was broken, and the hoover smelled foul when I had to use it. The mop had an old, smelly, used head. There was no washer in our lodge, though we were able to use one in an empty cabin, thank you. Internet was very poor, so the smart TV had no connection to work with.

The accessible lodge’s wet room was good, and we had a relaxing time in a very quiet place. The hot tub was good too, though the sofa could be more comfortable. We brought the dogs, but had to keep them on leads because the outside wasn’t fully fenced. Bring a torch for taking them out at night, as it can be dark. We’d go again.

The area around the lodges is amazing, and Christmas adds a bit of magic to the experience. The hot tub was awesome. Even though it was freezing outside, it was lovely to relax in the bubbles and look at the stars. We stayed in Shaun Lodge. It was pleasant and had everything we needed, though we had to wash some things up again and the oven could do with a clean. We ate out most nights. One snag was having no logs for the first night, even though we’d tried to arrange some. We then bought too many because there wasn’t much guidance. For three nights, one or two starter packs would be enough.
