This is a comfortable place to crash for a good night’s sleep, then carry on with your journey. The rooms are clean and tidy, with plenty of space and a walk-in shower, and breakfast is included. Don’t expect much from the window view, though, it was a big letdown. Dogs are apparently allowed, but getting upstairs means steep stairs through a tiny corridor. Breakfast starting at 9am felt late when you leave around 10. They do offer a continental breakfast to take upstairs and eat earlier, but there’s no hot food with that. The breakfast itself was reasonably good, with a tasty latte and a decent English breakfast, though it wasn’t the best tasting one. A choice of hash browns or poached eggs would be nice. I tried the £18 fish and chips, which were basic, and the fries were quite hard. The bar is good and stays open until 11pm. Not bad, but there’s room to improve. I’d give it 7/10.

The restaurant was phenomenal, and the vegan food was a real highlight, especially the dessert. There aren’t many vegan options around, so vegans and vegetarians should definitely come here. They handled the gluten-free and dairy-free requirements very well too. The stay was utterly lovely apart from a constant, irritating whistle that woke me and kept disrupting my sleep. I think it might have been a dodgy weather vane or something. I’m surprised other guests haven’t mentioned it.

We came back for an evening meal and it was just as delicious as the fabulous Sunday roast. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for, and the food is even better than the brilliant service. The staff are friendly and kind, especially with our little son. It’s a real family-run pub.

We were staying in the village and went to The Pheasant Inn for dinner. The food and service were excellent, and the pub has plenty of character. The staff were great and had a good sense of humour. We stayed on for drinks in the bar and soaked up the atmosphere. Absolutely brilliant evening. It gets very busy, so I’d book a table.

A good menu of down-to-earth food, and the Sunday lunch was lovely too. The team were friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. They even brought a bowl of water for our dog.
