Our room was large, very comfortable and had an ensuite. The 1800s building has a conservatory and reading area for guests, plus a drying room and a dining room for breakfast and dinner. It’s just outside the village and right on my walking route.

The food is wholesome, flavoursome and really good. You can order packed lunches, with a great choice of delicious sandwiches, and afternoon tea and cake are included each day, which is a real treat. The staff are efficient and happy to help. This was my second visit, and I’ve already booked for next year. It’s a great place to stay, peaceful and quiet in beautiful surroundings. The accommodation is comfortable and homely, with no TVs.

The meals were delicious, and we sat with different people each time. It was a delightful stay, with simple rooms, warm and friendly hosts, beautiful grounds and a calm, kind atmosphere.

We spent seven nights here on a Quaker Pilgramage Tour. The setting near the beautiful village of Grasmere is gorgeous, and breakfast was excellent, with wholesome dinners too. The common rooms and dining rooms were nice, and sheep baaing in the pasture outside the window was how we woke up. We stayed in a small double room in the Annex, with just one small window. That became a problem during the last two warm days. The bus stop is several hundred yards away. The drying room was great for wet days and washing clothes by hand. Most things were in good condition, though some maintenance is needed.

The grounds were nice to sit in, and there was a chance of seeing a red squirrel. There were thoughtful little extras too, like being able to help yourself to tea or coffee in the lobby, with a biscuit or even chocolate. The staff were friendly, the place spotlessly clean, and the service was welcoming. The food was plain but well cooked. I couldn’t find anything to fault.
