A great base for a week of walking with the family, with several walks starting right at the door. The self catering place is large, but in winter the living and dining room takes a lot of heating, so be ready to buy plenty of logs or coal.

What made the stay for us was how helpful Mark and Debbie were when I realised I’d left a sentimental piece of jewellery in the room. I called the next day, and Mark, the owner, responded quickly and did all he could to help. Debbie on the cleaning team was also fantastic with our query. We found the missing item, and I can’t thank them enough. The stay itself was wonderful from beginning to end. Parking was easy, and inside it felt cosy, country style and zen, with lots of space and a comfortable temperature throughout. I’d highly recommend the place. If you choose to stay here, you won’t regret it. Thanks again for all the help.

The little desk area between the kitchen and hallway was very useful. My one suggestion is to put a door back between the kitchen and desk area and the utility room. It looks like there used to be one, and when the front door opens into the utility, cold air reaches both spaces. The location is scenic and a bit off the beaten path, which is part of its appeal. The entrance is uneven and the turn is tight, but there’s excellent access to the Coast to coast path and other hills. The village centre is a pleasant walk away. The house was warm, especially the first floor shower room with its powered shower. The ground floor bathroom off the utility was quite cold, with only a towel rail for heat.

It has a relaxed atmosphere, a handy bar with hot and cold drinks, a small dinner menu and fun movie nights. Breakfast was substantial, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. There are beautiful mountain views too. It’s tucked away off the beaten track. It began as a backpackers hostel and now also has several hotel rooms, decorated to a good standard with modern en suite showers and toilets. Highly recommended.

The sheep outside our window made waking up lovely, and breakfast was yummy. Taylor & Carolyn were amazing hosts. We were there for two nights while visiting the lakes for a friend’s wedding, and it was just great. We’ll definitely stay again xx
