Gable End Hotel

We’ve been coming here once or twice a year since 2019, back when it had the previous owner, so it’s sad to think we may not return. After a six-hour trip, finding the hotel abandoned makes it too risky for us. They’re still taking bookings despite having been closed for two months. I hope Justin can turn things around, he used to be very friendly. It seems like he’s having a hard time and might need someone to help with his ring doorbell.

There’s ample parking, and Jason was helpful with directions whenever we wanted to explore. Breakfast was hot and tasty, with plenty of tea and coffee. He also gave us a friendly welcome. For a budget hotel, it’s good.

We eventually found somewhere else to stay, about a 10-minute walk away. The next day, as we passed this place, I saw someone sitting in a car on the drive and realized they were in the same situation I’d been in the day before. I’d booked a weekend stay and received arrival instructions that morning, so things seemed fine until we reached the property after a three-hour drive. Nobody answered the doorbell, and calls to both numbers, the one on the website and the one left on the door, went nowhere. After an hour of trying, I contacted booking.com. Another 45 minutes later, they said they couldn’t accommodate us, without explaining why. Pathetic service. This place shouldn’t be allowed to advertise online. Be careful and avoid it.

We had paid in advance and our stay was confirmed, but when we got there at the agreed check-in time the Gable End Hotel was closed, dark and unattended. Nobody contacted us or let us in, so we were stranded and had to find another place late at night. Several other reviews describe the same thing. Extremely disappointing.
