Smiths at Gretna Green

We accepted an invitation to return for our first anniversary after the circumstances that moved our wedding booking from Gretna Hall to Smiths Hotel. In the meantime, it'll be hard not to find another excuse to stay there. Neither we nor our guests had seen the Bridal Suite, Guest Rooms or Function Room before the wedding day, but Smiths Hotel exceeded our expectations by a thousand times. The enormous Bridal Suite had a huge bath, double shower, lots of room for the hair and make up teams and photographers, and a large balcony overlooking the countryside. The Function Room was equivalent to the one we'd booked at Gretna Hall, and the staff even offered to arrange our decorations and cakes. Phoebe met us at check-in to go through the last details and put us at ease throughout; Gill was just as reassuring while coordinating our ceremony. Both were exceptional, approachable and very attentive. Our guests were amazed by the service too. One couple said it was the best hotel and service they'd ever experienced. Thanks to everyone who helped the wedding day run so smoothly.

The Thistle suite was beautiful, luxurious and absolutely spotless. Debra and the rest of the staff were so attentive and did everything they could to make our stay perfect. Breakfast was amazing, thanks to the chef. Stunning hotel, great location, and I'd highly recommend it.

The bathroom was the one part of the room that fell a little below the standard elsewhere. Some cosmetic attention and tightening the loose fixtures would make a real difference. The room itself was otherwise in good order and had what you'd need. We stayed two nights for our wedding, and the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. The Restaurant and Bar were up to a great standard, as were the food and drinks selection. Special mention for “K” in the Restaurant, a polite, friendly and knowledgeable credit to the place. We wish him every success in future.

They really know how to put on a wedding. The food and service were excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our coeliac guests were catered for extremely well, with gluten-free items served separately and no compromise on portion size or quality. The rooms were spacious, clean, new and well set up for weddings. Even the hairdryer and iron were much better quality than typical hotel ones. Madison did my makeup, and I was very happy with it. The location is right across the road from the Blacksmith shop. I can only say good things!
