The Yarborough Hotel Wetherspoon

They got our order wrong on the 3 for £15 small plates deal, with one of the three dishes not being what we ordered. I didn't want to make a fuss or send it back. Ten minutes later, a woman came over, took the half-eaten garlic bread from us and said we'd not ordered it, so she was throwing it in the bin. Perfectly good food wasted over a mistake. I should've said something earlier, but what an overreaction to garlic bread 😂

The staff were kind and polite, service was good and the rooms clean and tidy. The air con units outside the window were a bit noisy. I did find the rule against children after 9pm odd for a family orientated establishment. I think children should be allowed as long as they're seated and behaving, and I was very surprised the rule included the outside benches. Even so, I'd return.

I usually like Wetherspoons, but I won't eat there again after our visit to Grimsby Yarborough. We ordered two pepperoni pizzas and garlic bread. The presentation was awful, the pizzas were thin and rock hard, and there were only five pieces of pepperoni on each 11 inch pizza. The cheese was microwaved into oblivion. If they'd cost 50p, that would still have been robbery, but the bill was over £24. I was so disgusted I went to the bar, but the staff had disappeared from behind it. We left the food on the table and went away looking at Wetherspoons in a new light.

Room 223 was nicely furnished and equipped, and it's handily located for the train station. We told Hotel Reception one of the main curtains was partly off its track and needed fixing, but three days later it still hadn't been sorted. The food is very variable. I still think the Breakfast Muffin, most curries, burgers and Paninis are the best choices, but the fish and chips aren't worth the price. Showing your room card at the bar lets you get a drinks mug instead of bringing one down from your room.
