The host made this stay for us. She was lovely to talk with and gave us helpful ideas for places to visit. When she heard we were going camping afterward, she even made us a little cream to keep the midges away. Our twin room had a separate sitting area, comfortable furnishings and good bedding, and Roseneath itself is a beautiful building with a fantastic view. We'd happily come back.

Sarah was so welcoming and did everything she could to make us comfortable. The house has lovely hand-painted artwork, and it's a beautiful old place close to the town centre. Our stay was wonderful; the room could use a little modernising, though.

The guesthouse is cheap, only about a five-minute walk from downtown, and Sarah is kind and helpful. She shared local suggestions and even offered us a phone to use. She also went out of her way to provide gluten-free bread for my gluten allergy. The first welcome was abrupt and came with a lot of information at once, which felt overwhelming after a day of travel. Our upgraded sea-view room was dusty and didn't feel clean. The bathroom was dated, and the toilet was very loud. It was an okay place to sleep, but I'm not sure it deserves four stars. Across our two weeks in Scotland, this was the worst place we stayed, though we'd been spoiled by great Airbnb stays. I hadn't stayed somewhere this questionable since my youth hostel days years ago. I wouldn't return.

Breakfast was great, and the host was kind and helpful. This is an older home updated with modern technology, which is pretty common for B&Bs, so you'll probably like it if that's your sort of place. Parking could be awkward when the house is full, since getting your car out might be difficult. I didn't hear of it causing a problem, though, and most attractions are walkable anyway.

I'm only on night one of a five-night stay in Oban, and I'm already in love with this guesthouse. The room is a great size, cosy, and has its own bathroom. The views over the esplanade and shore are amazing. I'm looking forward to breakfast tomorrow, and to trying the blueberry pancakes later this week.
