The cabin was the perfect choice for my last night after a week at other YHAs around the Dales. I slept better than I ever have, and the pod stayed warm with its electric heater. There were plenty of sockets, and I think the quilts were thicker than the ones in the dorms in the main buildings. The separate SC kitchen and sitting area gave us some quiet away from the main building. A large school group was staying too, but they were lovely and didn’t make any noise or fuss; I think they mostly used the communal areas by the main lodge. Staff were superb, and the toilets and showers were great. There was space to hang outdoor clothes and keep them dry, with room for your other bits while showering. The main building’s WCs are left of reception, where you’ll also find the water refill taps. There’s loads of parking. You have to open and shut the gate by hand, and if you arrive in the dark, there’s a bungee cord on the wall to hold it open while you get in.

We ate at the restaurant one evening and found the food really tasty, on a par with the local pubs but much cheaper. Our camping pod was in a lovely copse beside the YHA, catching the morning and evening sun. It was very peaceful during our midweek stay in early September, and the showers and toilets for campers were clean.

We came back for a second YHA stay because our time at YHA Grinton Lodge had been so good. Friendly staff, a clean place with everything we needed, and free parking. There’s even a kitchen where you can make tea or cook a meal. Highly recommend it.

The hostel is a former Hunting Lodge, with footpaths starting right outside, which worked really well for a walking trip with friends in this part of the Yorkshire Dales. The staff welcomed us and gave excellent service. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

A lovely, affordable place in the middle of beautiful surroundings. The rooms and toilets were clean. There were 13 of us, and we had a great night, then immediately wished we’d booked a longer stay. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Yorkshire Dales.
