Asperion Hotel

The staff were very nice, and the room was comfortable, though a bit hot. I stayed overnight in a single room with a separate private toilet. It was fine for the price and within walking distance of both the train station and town centre.

I was there overnight this week for a work trip and would definitely stay again. The reception staff are lovely, and the hotel has a cosy feel. My Superior Double was comfortable, with a clean, nicely modern en-suite bathroom. The honesty bar in reception was a lovely touch.

The worn towels and bed sheets in the Castle Deluxe Room could do with being replaced. The service felt disorganized throughout. I'd pre-ordered breakfast for 08:00, but it arrived around 08:20, leaving me rushed before my 09:00 meeting. There seemed to be only one staff member handling both cooking and cleaning, so everything was slow. At checkout, the receptionist was outside smoking, and I waited a few minutes. When I went out to speak to him, he didn't seem to hear me, as he was on the phone or listening to music. I paid £15 for breakfast and was told everything was settled. Nobody asked for the key back, but later I was charged £35 for it. I believe that could have been avoided if they had followed proper checkout procedures and asked for the key before I left. That unexpected extra charge left a negative impression.

We enjoyed the stay in a quiet location, with friendly, welcoming staff. The rooms are fairly basic, but clean and well presented. I would have preferred to choose breakfast on the day instead of having to pre-order the night before. The town centre and restaurants are about a 15-minute walk away, up a hill.
