Coldra Court Hotel by Celtic Manor

Joel at reception gave us a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. He explained everything clearly, was full of energy, and couldn’t do enough to help. He also kindly upgraded us to a superior suite with two double beds, a TV, a shower, and a pleasant view over the courtyard. The room was spacious and very clean, with a good selection of tea, coffee, and biscuits. The pillows were comfortable, though the beds weren’t ideal for sleeping if you’re used to a super king. We also noticed small holes in the bedding, which spoiled the otherwise tidy presentation. Although we were in a quieter part of the hotel, there was quite a lot of noise late at night from people running along the corridors, shouting, and knocking on doors. Check-in starts at 4pm and checkout is at 11am. Staff kindly provided a complimentary razor and shaving cream when I realised I’d forgotten mine. They can also provide shower caps, shower gel, and toiletries on request. The pool, sauna, and steam room at Coldra Court are out of order until late March. The gym is still available, and guests can use the facilities at sister hotel Celtic Manor. We went to the pool, sauna, and jacuzzi there, but it was busy with families. We later learned that the Dylan gym was another option. It’s quieter, more member-focused, and has lane swimming with no children allowed. Parking is available on site for £13.50 overnight, which felt steep when already staying at the hotel. They also take a £50 deposit when you arrive in case you open a bar or restaurant tab, but it’s refunded after checkout. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, but spent some time in the bar. Drinks are on the expensive side: about £5 for non-alcoholic drinks, £7 for a pint, £3.50 for a half, £7 for non-alcoholic cocktails, and £10 for cocktails. It’s a nice place to relax and watch football or rugby, and the live singer at 9pm helped create a good atmosphere. We had a pleasant stay at Coldra Court, with excellent staff and a clean, spacious room. Some facilities were temporarily unavailable, and a few smaller issues kept it from being a full five stars, but we enjoyed our visit and would consider coming back.

The room was fabulous and very comfortable, and the staff were wonderful and accommodating. We had a lovely breakfast and evening meal, and the whole stay was relaxing. My daughter came with me as a birthday treat. She has Downs Syndrome, and they treated her like a queen. She loved it, and we’ll definitely return. 10/10.

Alex was fabulous as our waiter at The Rib at the Coldra Hotel. He looked after every need with humour and grace. I had a perfectly cooked medium-rare sirloin, the best I’ve had in a long time. It was a delicious meal, and made my Dad’s 70th feel really special. Thank you so much!

Everyone who served us was cheerful, positive, and informative, and the hotel itself was clean and welcoming. The room service lady in the mornings couldn’t do enough for us, and the restaurant team were very helpful when we asked for a slightly different breakfast. The food was excellent. We stayed in a family room with our son for a few days while visiting our other child at university. It had just the right mix of comfort, cosiness, and luxury. We’ll be back!
