On a nice day I popped in for a drink and really liked the place. It’s an old fashioned pub with loads of character, plus a pleasant beer garden for good weather. Dogs are welcome in the bar and garden too. I’d give the Guinness 7 out of 10.
The mixed 1 and 5 star reviews suggest something’s off. The place is unfriendly, and the rooms are basic, small, and noisy. For what it charges, this is one of the worst pubs with rooms I’ve stayed in. Avoid.
I was invited to the pub for New Year’s Eve by seven different groups of friends and family. There was a sign outside saying it was a ticketed event, so I checked with my friends and they reassured me it was fine to come in and that no tickets had been issued. But once inside, the landlady, stone faced, told me to leave. I felt lost, deflated, and unwelcome, even though I’d been invited. Nicola is a power fan. I may have missed seeing loved ones, but I ended up having a lovely night somewhere else.
We went in to watch the football with a few lads from work, but the landlady came down ten minutes into the game looking furious and said she was closing. When we asked what time, she said, “whenever I want, I’m tired and got kids upstairs”. We weren’t even making noise. Even if we had been, it’s a pub, not a library. Customer service was nonexistent. We spent £40 on two rounds of beer in 20 minutes. Wish we’d thrown the money down the drain instead of putting it in this woman’s pocket. Definitely avoid.
