The food is beautifully presented and full of flavour, and the wine and cocktails are excellent. The Priory always makes me feel welcome, especially the friendly, engaging team at the chef’s counter. I've visited several times and never left disappointed. It feels special without being pretentious, with modern décor that works beautifully alongside the building's historic character. Even on busy Saturdays, the staff are kind and professional. It's not cheap, but the quality makes it good value. My one criticism is that the vegan and vegetarian choices are limited and less exciting than the meat and fish dishes. I'll happily keep coming back and recommending it.

The food was the part that fell a little flat for me. The dishes were technically fine in texture and presentation, with balanced flavours, but they weren't especially inspiring. The cooking felt plain and safe, without much boldness, energy, colour, or creativity. At around £50-60 per person, the price is in line with what you'd expect from a place like this, but I'd welcome more personality and flavour for that cost. The staff were exceptional, attentive and kind, and made a real effort to keep guests comfortable from arrival. That left a lasting impression. The Priory in Caerleon also has an elegant but welcoming feel, with refined, understated décor that never feels cold. It's a calm place to relax and talk, with classic charm rather than a flashy look. My experience wasn't disappointing, but it wasn't exciting either, the food was a flat line despite the excellent service and atmosphere.

For our anniversary we stayed in the hotel's best room, with a roll top bath, lovely décor, and a comfortable bed. We had a great time. The staff were superb, especially Sue, Nikkita and Emily, and the food was exceptional throughout. We had tapas at the bar, then dinner and Sunday lunch the next day in the restaurant. Highly recommended!

The Priory is a beautiful old building with interesting features, including the stain glass windows m. It's Grade II listed for its architectural and historic importance. Much of its current appearance comes from 19th century Tudor Revival rebuilding, though some medieval walls and structure remain. The site is believed to have begun around 1180 as a Cistercian monastery in Caerleon on the River Usk. It later became a private home, owned by the Morgan family, a prominent local dynasty, from around 1450 to 1835. We were unlikely to be staying in the main hotel, as there's a two storey annexe alongside it. The rooms there are a good size and nice, with an old style bathroom, and they're conveniently close to parking. But the ground floor rooms get a lot of noise from upstairs, including water running when people shower and footsteps. We were woken at 6:00 am by someone showering. The bare wood floors are cold in winter, and no slippers are provided. For a £120 per night hotel claiming to offer luxury, that isn't acceptable. Breakfast didn't seem good value to me. The buffet options were very limited apart from the one dish you choose from the menu. Coffee is made in advance, and fresh coffee costs extra.

Great food and a lovely atmosphere for a cocktail or two. Chef Grady is a wonderful gentleman, and so are most Wednesdayites. A shout out to Ross too. He's a Spurs fan, but his service was Premier League quality.
