The staff are always amazing, and Nige behind the bar is polite and has great banter with the punters. There’s a good selection of cask ale, and nobody makes you feel rushed. We live in Newport, so we didn’t stay here, but we come to monmouth quite often. The Punchouse is great for lunch, look out for the veggie sausages and mash. It was really hot today, over 50 in the kitchen, but they kept it open with a limited menu.

There’s a lovely mix of locals and visitors, and the atmosphere at The Punch House pub in Monmouth feels warm and welcoming. It’s popular and usually busy, so I’d book a table by phone in advance. We had a really enjoyable visit. My steak was excellent, cooked just right and very tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, and it’s a big plus that dogs are welcome. Great food and lovely service. We’ll be back!

I’ve been visiting and eating at this legendary pub and eating house now and then for 50 years. It always looks and feels good, with a genuine Momouth vibe. Glad to see this icon doing well and in good hands! 👏👏👏

We booked online the day before. The place has great character and sits right in the centre of Monmouth. Our large room was lovely, and the landlady gave us a very warm welcome. She was clearly having a hard time with problems in the kitchen service, but she did a great job recommending somewhere else for us to eat. Would definitely recommend.

I’m in Monmouth at least seven months a year, and after my visit to the Punch House today, I wouldn’t go back. The gents’ toilets absolutely stank. I also couldn’t get online: staff at the bar said no login was needed, but connecting still gave me no internet. At £5.90 for a beer, I expected better. Avoid this place.
