The Bell At Skenfrith

The view from this lovely place was a treat, and the service was warm and friendly. We had lunch today, which turned out to be a wonderful surprise. My cannelloni and my husband’s pork were both delicious and cooked just right. Highly recommend!

We’d had no meal this good in ages. Everything tasted lovely and came out beautifully presented, and the service was spot on with really friendly staff. I’d recommend this pub for a special occasion. Even the soap and hand lotion in the toilets were lovely!

The food was good, but it couldn’t make up for how poor the rest of the visit felt. I’d booked a birthday lunch for my wife months earlier, and when we arrived with our two teenage children, a wedding group of around 20-30 had taken over the restaurant. We were the only people there who weren’t wedding guests, so they put us in a separate bar area with empty tables and characterless decor. The young woman who greeted us was very abrupt; she was a barmaid filling in as a waitress, and the service stayed abrupt until a manager stepped in. We had to go to the bar to order drinks and get someone to take our food order. The men’s toilets were scruffy, with dusty old plastic orchids and no toilet rolls.

The evening meal was fantastic, every dish was on point, and the portions were generous. We stayed a night for my wife’s birthday and really enjoyed the welcoming feel of The Bell and its beautiful, tucked-away location. There was a cracking pint of Butty Bach too. We’d definitely recommend it and will come back, either to stay again or just eat at the restaurant.
