The last two times I’ve been to the Milton, the food has been astounding. I’ve never had steak so tender and perfectly cooked in a very long time. The current owners and chef deserve more than 5/5, maybe 10/5 for turning the place around. Staff are always happy to see everyone, nothing seems too much trouble, and they’ll happily start a chat over a pint. I’ve never stayed at the hotel, but I’ve eaten there many times over the years. My first meal was pretty good pub grub for the price. On a later visit, the food was atrocious. What a change since then. Well worth visiting for a meal. Great job, everyone at the Milton.

At the New Year’s fancy dress party I was struck by how clean and tidy everything was. The food was superb, and the staff were friendly. The French-trained chef speaks several languages, and his cooking speaks for itself. It’s changed a lot since I last visited many years ago. Thank you, Milton, you’ve earned my five stars.

The owner Anthony was so friendly and helpful, even printing an urgent document for me. The rest of the staff were polite and helpful too. Dinner was excellent, with generous hot portions and a good choice on the menu. The room was clean and tidy. It was small, but comfortable. I’d definitely recommend a visit.

The food was excellent, just as good as it looked in the pictures, and the puddings were fabulous. It was my dad’s birthday weekend and he loves his puddings, so that’s high praise from him. At breakfast the next morning he only complained because it was so large. It really was a big breakfast. He left a sausage, and I couldn’t finish it for him either. We were there for Six Nations rugby and found it a great little pub. The room was comfortable and fairly clean, with a little dust on the window sill and a couple of other minor things if you’re being picky. The welcome and the friendly, helpful staff more than made up for that. When we arrived they booked us a taxi into Newport and promised us priority for a food table when we got back from the rugby. There’s a good bar selection and a good menu. We’ll definitely book again next time we’re down.

Took my family and friends to the Milton for Sunday roast today. The welcome was so warm, and the food was delicious, with plenty of choice and generous portions. We’ll definitely go back with friends. Highly recommend.
