The hotel is in the docks area and is clean and basic, but good value for money. The friendly, helpful staff provide excellent service. There's a free car park, though the entrance is a tight fit. There's a bar, but no food was available because the kitchen was being refurbished. The rooms are ensuite, with a clean shower and towels, so it's okay for the price.

I felt very safe staying here on my own, despite the hotel's location in Newport's industrial Docklands. The car park is locked from 9.30pm until 5.30am, which reassured me that my car would be secure overnight. The clean, cosy rooms have good showers. The interior is a beautiful example of late Victorian architecture and design, with stained glass windows and ornate staircases and banisters. I can't praise the staff and service enough. Jack was friendly and helpful when I arrived, and Raj and his son were just as helpful.

Raj provided the standout service during my excellent stay at the Waterloo Hotel in Newport, Wales. The confirmation email clearly says reception isn't open 24/7 and asks guests to notify the hotel about arrivals after 9pm. I didn't do that, but Raj still went above and beyond, waking at around 1am to check me in himself. His professionalism and care for guests were commendable. The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable, and the overall standard was above what I expected. For both the accommodation and service, it's excellent value. I'd highly recommend the Waterloo Hotel, especially for Raj's exemplary service.

The room’s high ceilings and Art Deco touches gave this place a character I didn’t get at a Premier Inn or ibis. It was comfortable, too, and somehow cost less. The staff were friendly and helpful.
