Tracy, the landlady, was incredibly helpful and compassionate when we held my father's wake here. She made a lovely, tasty spread, with plenty for everyone. I'm very grateful to Tracy and her husband for their hospitality. Thank you. X

The location's a bit out of the way, but public transport does reach the hotel. My partner and I travelled all the way from Basildon by bus, though remember there isn't a bus on Sundays. The owners were lovely and the service was wonderful. Our cute room had loads of tea and coffee, and the pub's live-in dog came over to say hello in his own friendly way. I'm usually nervous around dogs, so this one was special to me. I'd definitely stay again.

The homemade pie was the best, and the people were lovely. Looking forward to trying the Sunday roast.

The room we were given at The Waggon & Horses in Great Yeldham on May 5, 2025, was uninhabitable. We left straight away and booked another hotel. I was travelling with my child and didn't feel safe confronting the staff. The room was freezing, around 10°C, because the radiator wasn't working and the window had been left wide open. It was very damp, smelled strongly of mould as soon as we entered, and we found visible black mould and water damage around the windows. I contacted Hotels.com that same day with photos and asked for a refund, but the hotel refused to cooperate or approve it. They showed no willingness to take responsibility for the room's condition. Avoid this place unless you want a cold, damp, mould-infested room and no customer support.

The young woman working in the pub was helpful, and the rooms and service were okay. Still, the place felt barely cleaned: dust was everywhere and the bathrooms had mould all over. It looked like they’d only made the beds, and I didn’t want to shower. The pub kitchen was closed, so there was no food, and the glasses were very dirty too.
