After exploring Hadrian’s Wall, it was lovely to come back to The Lodge, where we spent four very comfortable nights in November. Ed kept in touch brilliantly before we arrived and gave us a warm welcome. A lot of care has gone into the place, and it has everything you need. The beds were among the most comfortable we’ve slept in.

Breakfast was excellent, especially the home-grown duck eggs. The farm felt wonderfully quiet, with guests spread out enough that it seemed like we were the only ones there. The rooms and beds were really comfortable, and the layout is great, with a cozy lounge, a kitchen for breakfast and a drying room for wet hiking gear.

We were walking the Hadrians Wall Path, and Ed and Lydia made our one-night stop on Day 3 of our six-day trip feel easy from the start. Ed helped us reach the Day 4 starting point without a hitch, and showed us the drying room so we could dry our boots and clothes for the next day's walk. Their local advice and generous help were much appreciated. Before we arrived, they quickly answered my email questions, arranged packed lunches and booked us a table at the Milecastle Inn, a short walk away. It was a great place for dinner and to unwind after a long day. Our twin room was spacious and suited us well, with ensuite facilities. There was also a shared area with tea and coffee that served as a breakfast room, with everything we needed before setting off. The welcome was warm, the location has lovely views and good parking, and it would also make a good base for exploring by car. Ed and Lydia are fantastic hosts. We’ll definitely return.

We only wish we’d had longer at Bridge House. The room was warm, cozy and comfortable, with a lovely countryside view and a real home-from-home feel. Breakfast was delicious, with an egg roll from their ducks and homemade compote. They also made us a tasty packed lunch for the next leg when we asked. We ate at the Milecastle Inn a couple of doors down, and the food was fantastic. It was a perfect stop on our Hadrian's Wall walk, and we’d love to return and book Bridge House again.

My little hut in the garden was clean and had basically everything I needed, though it was small and had a compost toilet. Ed still left me breakfast even though I headed off very early. The service was really good, and the greenroom was a lovely spot to relax after a long hike.
