The location right in the town centre worked perfectly for my walking trip. I could easily head out for food, and there were several options. Momiji Japanese restaurant at the other end of town is about a 10-minute walk and I can highly recommend it. The host was friendly and helpful too, so it was a great stay. I’d booked a long time ahead for one night on the Angles' way trail, but by the time I arrived in the dark I’d forgotten, or never really known, much beyond the location. The entrance through a side passage didn’t tell me what to expect, and I only saw the outside of the building in the morning. The old oak beams caught my eye, then I turned on the light in room number 2 and could hardly believe it. The double room was cleverly renovated, with big windows overlooking the high street that brought in lots of light by day. It felt like a big-city boutique hotel suite, with plenty of space, lovely decor around the beams and fireplace, a modern bathroom, dining and seating areas, and a kitchen nook with a toaster and kettle. About a tenth of the price!

After a hectic night out, it was lovely to come back to this haven. Ginni had even switched on the bedroom lights for us when we returned late. The beds had crisp white linen and the bathroom was immaculate. It’s a stunning Georgian (I think) property with loads of character, and Ginni is an amazing, welcoming host. The breakfast the next morning was the best we’ve had at any hotel or B&B. Thank you, Ginni.

The breakfasts are great, made with locally sourced products and delivered to your room. I’ve stayed at Chameleon House with Ginni and Pete several times over the past ten years, and I’ve always felt welcome. The apartments are spacious, each with its own design that suits the building’s historic character. It’s a stylish boutique B&B, and honestly, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Room 2 has lovely old beams, nice decor, a fridge, bathrobes, and a comfortable bed. There’s parking off the street. The entry instructions were a bit confusing, but we got in!
