It’s an ancient, quirky, rustic place, with a lovely bar, friendly locals, a charming owner, and dedicated staff. Just don’t come expecting city glitz!

I slept well in a very comfy bed, and the room was clean. Robin was a really good guy, and the lady sorted out the TV issue and upgraded my room.

The bedroom and bathroom decor and furnishings are dated and tired. Still, a hotel refurbishment would cost millions, and then bed and breakfast probably wouldn’t stay under £100, which is rare nowadays. There are plenty of positives too: friendly staff, a nice pub, a brilliant breakfast, a comfortable bed, and a great location.

The Swan couldn’t be faulted for service or kindness. They accommodated me at the last minute and were waiting when I arrived. My first booking was elsewhere, but I’d mixed up the dates. The room and bathroom were a little disappointing, though the breakfast was soooo good.

The toilet in room 12 didn’t flush very well, and the shower felt like trying to wash under a slow tap. The bathroom could do with some updating. Apart from that, it was a pleasant stay: the room was spacious and clean, the welcome friendly, and breakfast superb, tasty, and more than accommodating.
