Conference View Guest House

It’s a basic B&B with decent rooms and really good value, especially with the fantastic breakfast included in the room price. Looks like it’s had a refurbishment recently. There are two parking spaces at the back, and the location is fantastic, right in central Harrogate.

The owner has been friendly and helpful, and we managed to park behind the building in one of the two spaces. We’re staying in the self-contained apartment at the top. It’s about 33 steps to the first level, then another 13 to the bedroom and en suite. The kitchen has a hob, oven, microwave, fridge with an icebox, and toaster. The rooms are dated but clean, and the bed and furniture are comfortable.

The traffic on the busy road was ridiculous, and breakfast felt pretty minimal and basic, with just three mushrooms per portion. We arrived ten minutes early to find the front door locked, then waited about 15 minutes outside with our bags for Stewart, the owner. When he arrived, he greeted us and showed us our double room. It had two single beds pushed together, with an obvious dip in the middle, which we weren’t happy about. We made the best of the first night, but neither of us slept well. The main pillows seemed to be filled with single duvets, and the mattress was very hard and firm. We won’t be back.

Steward, the manager, was polite, friendly and caring. The room was lovely, clean and tidy. I’m definitely planning to stay here again next year when I’m back for another conference.
