The New York House

The people working there were so friendly, and the food was five-star quality at a good price. My room was lovely and up to date, and the bed was lovely too. A five-star experience. Thanks for a great day and night, I'll be going back again and again.

The breakfast was fine, with plenty to help yourself to: yoghurt, fruit, cereal, juice, a full English, and toast. I had to find the lady for dishes, as she was also cooking, but she was nice and served and cooked for us. We didn't leave hungry. The night turned out much better than we expected, and for one night it was okay. My first impression was a bit iffy. The room was small but fine, with lovely beds, clean linen, and big bath towels. The kettle badly needed descaling, and so did the shower head. It was clearly a very hard-water area, which showed around the taps and lower part of the shower. Our bedroom needed a towel rail; I mentioned it, but the man said he didn't know and would ask his boss. We also didn't leave our car on the street because we were worried about it. The area didn't seem the best to us, though that's only our opinion. Thank you.

The breakfast was great and there was plenty of it. Good value for money, though our room was very small. We only had one hand towel and one bath towel, and there was nobody there to ask for more.

The only reason this gets one star is that it was fairly close to where I needed to go. I won't stay here again and will definitely advise people to give it a wide berth. The room was okay, but urgently needed renovation. At 6am I was woken by what sounded like a steam hammer. It seems the kitchen extractor was responsible, and it doesn't work. Cooking-fat smells spread throughout the premises. Breakfast was a disaster too. I'm still puzzled by what they consider a continental breakfast. The butter was rancid, although the chef did replace it.
