Travelodge Hastings

We stayed for a quick night in Hastings while visiting Pevensey and Battle. The family room was clean and absolutely fine, breakfast was fresh, plentiful and spot on, and all the staff were polite and friendly. It does what it says on the tin. It's not five star luxury, but we had no issues.

We ended up staying here for a week because of an unexpected emergency repair at home. The location is pretty good, within walking distance of the town centre, with bus stops right outside. There's parking on site for a fee, registered at reception as at most Travelodge places. The cafe and bar looked fresh and nice, though we didn't try them. We could bring our little dog, which was a massive bonus. Travelodge and places like it are budget friendly and really for a night before moving on. The staff were pleasant and worked hard, covering everything from cleaning to reception with a smile. Our room was spotless, the cleanest of the three Travelodge hotels we've stayed in this month, and the flowers on the toilet rolls were a lovely touch that made our terrible housing situation feel a bit better. The place does need repairs, like all the Travelodge's we've been in. The room door wouldn't shut properly unless you lifted and pulled it, or sort of slammed it. I came back one day and found it ajar. I'm fairly sure I hadn't left it that way, because the last time I'd gone out I had to put the dog and his cage on the floor to lift and pull the door shut. Nothing had been touched, so who knows? The bathroom door wouldn't shut properly either.

Parking was perfect and the staff were excellent. The room was a different story. The mirror above the bed was so dusty I could barely see in it, and I could drag the dirt down with my finger. The carpets were stained, and the room smelled strongly of dog bones or dog chews, as if dogs had stayed there before us. The metal bed frame was very uncomfortable 😐

Fine for an overnight stay, but our room was damp, with moisture and water collecting on the windows. There were no plug sockets beside the beds. I use a CPAP machine to sleep and need to plug it in, but reception had no extension lead, so I had to go out and buy one to use my machine. The room was clean enough and had all the amenities. For a longer stay like ours, I wouldn't recommend it.
