Mercure Hatfield Oak

We held our wedding after-party in one of the conference rooms, then stayed the night and had breakfast before leaving. The staff kept helping us throughout, bringing extra chairs and changing the music when we asked. When the sound system suddenly broke on the day, they rigged speakers to a till so we could play our playlist, even though it meant using another till for drinks. Beforehand they'd let us see the room and try the audio system. The buffet was just £15 per head and there was lots left over. They happily made the whole menu vegetarian, and the food was incredibly good. The chefs did a great job. We were lucky to get a free room upgrade, too. It had loads of space and a really comfortable, large bed. Such a pleasant experience. We'd happily recommend it.

The staff made us feel very welcome, and the evening meals were mouthwatering, with desserts even better. Definitely worth the price. Our room was huge, the beds unbelievably comfortable, and the showers very hot with lovely smelling shampoo. Thanks for a fantastic stay. I'll definitely be back. This deserves to be a 5 star Hotel, not a 3.

The restaurant had a great range of food for different budgets, and the wait staff were polite, helpful and welcoming each morning. Everyone was impeccably polite, including when they quickly fixed a shower that wasn't working properly. I stayed for two weeks. My room was clean, tidy and fairly quiet. The only small annoyances were curtains that let in some light and a bathroom light that switched on automatically. They may not have the resources of a top chain, but they make a real effort to give you a good stay. It's a great hotel and well worth it.

We came from the States and arrived late, so it was nice to find someone at reception. Check-in was quick and easy, and the rooms were super nice, with comfy beds and coffee-making facilities. I stayed a few nights with my daughter while she visited the college next door, which was really close. Breakfast was great the first morning, with eggs made to order, and the young woman serving was attentive and helpful. Dinner was good too, and the staff were helpful. On the second morning the eggs looked a bit tired, but the same staff member kept checking, topping them up and replacing them as needed while still giving excellent service. A woman complained to her about the wait for coffee and toast, but I thought that was unfair. Service was better over the weekend than during the week, though the staff were different. Great stay. We'll be back in a couple of months.
