Ramada Hatfield

We had a good enough one-night stay, and breakfast was better than the sit-down meal. There wasn't much choice for dinner, and staff couldn't tell me what flavour the crumble was. At breakfast the tables were messy and had no cutlery, so I had to ask staff to clean them and bring cutlery. I'd paid for a double but was put in a twin room. Staff changed it quickly and were happy to help.

The room was nice, and breakfast made up for dinner. There were only two choices for starters and two for mains. I ordered the chicken, but it was pink, as was the chicken served to several other guests. I told a staff member, who took my plate away without even saying sorry.

The bed wasn't comfortable, with a hard, creaky mattress. The shower had good pressure but couldn't keep a steady temperature, swinging hot and cold whenever the water pressure changed. On the plus side, the room was clean and tidy, if a little small, the bathroom was clean with pleasant decor, and breakfast was pretty good.

The staff were the hotel's saving grace. They were under a lot of pressure but worked quickly and tried to sort out problems. Still, I wouldn't stay here again, and I'll be speaking to my tour operator about it. I was here last night as part of a national holiday tour. The basic room was clean and had the usual features, but the building was incredibly hot. The window only opened an inch, so the room became unbearable. The bathroom was clean, though the shower had only one setting, scalding hot. The restaurant was massively overbooked. There wasn't enough food, and some people missed main courses or dessert. We had to sit outside because there weren't enough seats. The food was okay, but the selections didn't make much sense together, and lots of items already had pepper on them. Breakfast was also covered in pepper, and the counter layout made everyone get in each other's way.
