Thorney Mire Barn B&B

The place was really cozy, and we enjoyed our stay. Red squirrels and other wildlife came by every day, and the host was very helpful. The one disappointment was the hot tub. We’d been looking forward to it, but in the cold weather it took 4.5 hours and a lot of wood to get hot. For what we paid for two nights, that was a bit disappointing. We’d stay again, though probably when it’s much warmer.

Thorneymire Lookout was a beautiful stay. Caroline and Si were friendly, attentive hosts, and everything was perfectly clean with great attention to detail. The wood fired bath and the red squirrels were wonderful. I’d recommend it to anyone and will definitely be back.

The views and walks were tremendous, even though it rained throughout our stay. We arrived very late in pouring rain, but the friendly owner greeted us with smiles and torches and showed us to the Shepherd’s Hut. Inside, the roaring fire, soft rugs and plenty of red squirrels kept us happy. The hut was lovely, and we wanted for nothing. From the front door we saw red squirrels, pheasants, blue tits, black tits, coal tits, chaffinches, nuthatches and an actual owl. The squirrels were especially sweet and curious. I also managed to slide all the way down a hill and land in some leaves. Great times. We’ll return.

The cabin was warm, luxurious and had what we needed. There’s wildlife everywhere, and it felt like being in a Snow White movie. Walks start right at the door and go towards Hawes and the surrounding area. The skylight above the bed gave us a spectacular view of the stars. One thing to keep in mind: you can’t bring hair straighteners, as the place only runs low voltage appliances. That wasn’t a problem for me, and the weather would have undone my efforts anyway 🤣. It’s one of the most beautiful places we’ve stayed, and we’ll definitely return.
