The food was delicious, and we loved seeing the peacocks. We also took the daily tour, which I’d recommend. This was our second stay, and we came away feeling just as charmed as before. The castle keeps its medieval character while offering great service and the comforts of home. Aidan, Jenna, the friendly woman at reception, and the assistant manager were all so helpful, they’re a real credit to the place.

The rooms are huge, and the shower had the strongest jet I’ve ever had in a hotel. We also enjoyed a drink in the drawing room while looking over the menu, then were shown down to the dining room once we’d ordered. There’s a good wine selection, and the food was really tasty. The grounds and location are lovely, especially if you want to see Hadrians wall, with about three Roman forts and a temple within a 15-minute drive. Great staff, too. I can see why people choose to get married here. A lovely place for couples to unwind and get away from the kids and the rest of the world.

The castle tour was a very welcome extra. Aiden even took us up onto the roof to look out from the ramparts after our tea. The food was made on site and was all tasty and good quality, with the best scones we’ve ever had. Reception made us feel welcome, and Aiden, one of the managers, was so helpful and accommodating. We visited for afternoon tea on my birthday, and the room was full of atmosphere, with tasteful historic decor. It was a fabulous experience from beginning to end, and we’ll definitely return. We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the guest rooms, but all the hotel’s public rooms were first rate.

We got married at Langley castle, and have loved coming back every year for our wedding anniversary. The staff always make us feel welcome, and we have a lovely time each visit. It’s beautiful, and the service is amazing. It is on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. We’ve been returning for over 11 years now.

Our first afternoon tea here was a wonderful way to see off a friend who was returning to New Zealand the next day. She was overjoyed and said she’d be taking lovely memories of a fabulous afternoon in an impressive, beautiful castle back with her. We were very impressed by the surroundings, the food, and the service, and we’ll definitely go again. Thanks, Lumley Castle.
