The Saturday tasting menu was so good that we're already looking forward to coming back. We've eaten tasting menus around the UK and abroad, and both of us thought this one ranked right up there. We first tried the Rock at lunch with its set menu, then returned last night for dinner. Every dish was delicious, and we couldn't fault one. Service was excellent, and the gluten-free changes for me were spot on. Dinner took a very enjoyable 2.5 hours, and at no point did we feel rushed or forgotten. The birthday surprise for my husband at the end was a lovely touch, and that marshmallow was insane 🤤. We often feel uncomfortable after a big tasting menu, but the portions here were just right. We were comfortably full and talked about how amazing the food was all the way home. Thanks for looking after us and our dog. We'll definitely be back!

I'm reviewing the restaurant, not the hotel. My wife, a friend, and I all had the tasting menu, and the evening ended up being disappointing. It started well, with dishes arriving at a good pace and attentive service. But around halfway through, things seemed to go downhill. Some servers may have finished their shifts, and the remaining dishes took a long time to arrive. They were average at best. Then it took ages to get anyone's attention for the bill, and we had to chase it up before it arrived. The sudden change partway through felt very strange, almost as if someone had flicked a switch. When we left, all three of us agreed it hadn't been worth £70 per head.

As visitors from the US, we found the inn a bit hard to locate. It's on a lane, so parking and navigating the lanes can be challenging. I'd recommend renting a compact vehicle. The staff were extremely helpful and let us check in early. Our room was large and elegant, and we enjoyed our time there. The English breakfasts were outstanding, and the local dairy products made everything taste wonderful. We ordered a two-course dinner and weren't disappointed. The prime rib and steaks were amazing, but the chocolate dessert was the highlight, the best I've ever enjoyed. The dessert portions were small, but meant to be savored. What a delightful place!

I stopped in for lunch and was welcomed with a smile. The staff let me choose my table, talked me through the menu options, and were attentive and good to chat with. I started with the Tempura Cauliflower, crisp with a light batter, and the curried mayo paired perfectly. Then came confit pork belly with wonderful crackling and tasty vegetables. The orange parfait was a perfect finish to a fantastic lunch. The Rock Inn has a cosy, warm decor, tasty fresh food, and friendly staff. Its location is great, and I plan to come back after a hike. Well worth a visit. Thanks to the amazing staff who make the Rock Inn so lovely!

We had a lovely two-night stay. The rooms are small but clean, and the food is amazing. The dinner room seating could use improvement: our small table was very shaky and right next to the oven. The wood-fired oven makes the whole building smell bad.
