Just to be clear, this is a pub review, as I’ve never stayed here. The food and service are both great, and the pub sits where several walks meet. It feels properly rural even though it’s only 40 minutes from London. Even familiar pub dishes like fish and chips are good, but there’s also a seasonal menu with interesting choices, so it’s a proper restaurant too. A lovely secret escape, and the owners are lovely people who have everything covered.

We had the specials menu Steak and Ale Pie, which my partner thought was scrumptious. My fish and chips were the best I’ve had this year. Classic British pub food, done really well. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting the area or heading to a wine tasting at Chiltern Valley.

We were lucky with the weather and could eat Sunday lunch outside. We had two roasts, a burger and halibut, and all the food was very good. My daughter’s gluten-free brownie for pudding was even better. A really enjoyable afternoon meal, thanks!

The food was good, though priced rather confidently. I liked the layout and décor a lot. The radio station playing through the poor-quality speakers took away from the ambience.

We paid £90 for a room for two with breakfast. The service was very welcoming, and the room was simple, warm and comfortable. The fireplace was fantastic, and the Christmas decorations looked beautiful. There was a great choice of Gin, and the food was some of the best I’ve had. We also walked through the countryside to Marlow. I’d happily come again and would highly recommend it.
