Munstone House Hotel

The hotel grounds were lovely and quiet, though pretty overgrown and in need of a tidy up. There’s potential here. My room was very quirky, like some 70s swingers retreat, with mirrors covering the whole back wall and a huge round bed. The bathroom was massive, with two great big mirrors, and I enjoyed the jacuzzi bath. I was alone and did get paranoid about hidden cameras, so I checked the mirror 😅 If quirky, wink wink, is what you’re after, this is the place lol. I liked how peaceful it was. I skipped breakfast, so can’t say anything about it. Checkout didn’t really happen: I rang the bell, nobody came, and I left the key.

We didn’t stay. The room smelled damp, flies were buzzing around, and it was dirty and dusty. There was toothpaste left on the tap and in the sink, the shower had mould, the toilet seat didn’t fit, and there were only bath towels, no hand towels. The bed was awful too. We’d received the stay as a Red Letter experience gift. On arrival, the house and grounds looked unkept, and reception felt like stepping back in time. We rang the bell and waited five minutes for someone to arrive, then another 20 minutes while they went to check the room and opened the window, apparently trying to make it appealing. It didn’t help. When we rang again to say we weren’t happy, nobody came after 30 minutes, so we left. Red Letter weren’t interested when we emailed them. I’m sure it was once a beautiful place, but sadly the owners have let it go to rack and ruin.

The building and grounds could use some TLC, but we had a wonderful two night stay. The location was peaceful and tranquil, the room clean, and breakfast excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly.

Dorine was so hospitable and attentive, and took great care of us. A great experience, hats off to Dorine!
