The Old Hall Inn

The children's falafel and mash were far better than the usual basic kids' meal, and my mum really enjoyed her chicken. I had the best risotto I've ever tasted. We finished with ice cream, which was perfect. Such a lovely meal, and we'll definitely return.

After my long walk, I was still in Whaley Bridge waiting for a taxi when they called around 8:45pm to check when I'd arrive, since the kitchen was closing soon. They kindly offered to ask the chef to put something aside, even if it was just a cheeseboard, which was more than fine by me. When I got there, the staff greeted me cheerfully and showed me to my room so I could change before heading to the bar for a drink. They'd put together a lovely board of meat, cheese, olives, seasoned butter and bread. Exactly what I needed with a very nice pint. This was the final night of my challenge to walk 5 marathons in 5 days, and it was a perfect way to end it. Thanks so much. I'll be back soon for a meal, or another night’s stay.

The room was comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly, and there was a superb choice of beers. Dinner was excellent too: the fish, pork belly and bean burger were all very tasty, with plenty of vegetables and nice presentation. Breakfast in the hall the next morning was really good. We'll head back as soon as we can for more walking, and to try the wood fired pizza at the neighbouring sister pub.

I had the beef featherblade, one of the best meals I've eaten this year. We stayed in a delightful cottage owned by the pub, with every comfort we needed. The Old Hall also deserves credit for its service, beautiful interior and location. Better lighting would be nice, but that wouldn't put me off visiting again.
