It was quiet enough to sit and talk without raising our voices, though it was a Monday, so it may be busier on other days. The building is lovely and the setting comfortable. There were six of us, and we all liked the food and found the staff really friendly. It was our first visit, but we’ll be back. I’d recommend it.

After a long, lovely walk in the surrounding hills, we were hoping for good fish and chips, but left very disappointed. The fish wasn’t good and the chips were too dry. There was no tartare sauce, and nobody mentioned that when we ordered, or we’d have picked something else. The owner wasn’t welcoming, and when it came time to pay, there was no discount or even a drink offered to make up for the meal. We felt cheated. On top of that, the owner wanted to charge the children the adult meal price. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Chrissie went out of her way to make sure I had a lovely dinner and breakfast, even with my coeliac disease. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were clean and modern. The surroundings are beautiful too. It rained, so we couldn’t go for a walk and explore, but that gives us an excuse to return.

The service was very good, friendly and chatty, and the prices were about what you’d expect at a pub. The chips were fluffy and nice. I found the bacon cheese burger dry, with a patty more like a big meatball and bacon that was overdone, almost like jerky. My wife had the mutton, and I finished it because there was too much for her. The spice was good, but the meat was dry and the rice was like pudding. The food was okay overall.

There were eight of us on Friday night, and we were the only table in the pub. We waited ages for our food, apparently because everyone had ordered something different. My burger was tiny and shrivelled, not even wide enough to cover the bun, and the bacon was hard as stone from being so overcooked. The chips portion was very small. I can only imagine what it would be like with other people there. I won’t come back or recommend it.
