Barton Gate Farm Guesthouse

We slept really well during our one-night stay. The rooms were clean and roomy, and the grounds are nicely looked after, with a pleasant breakfast area and outdoor seats for warm days. The owner was so helpful, friendly and flexible. It's also a handy base for exploring the Devon and Cornwall coasts.

The hosts made us feel like part of the family from check-in right through to leaving, and the place is spotless and peaceful. We managed to get everything we needed to make dinner ourselves on the first night, and had a great time in the play area. It's such a good family getaway, and we'll come back for a staycation next time. Even the breakfast was one of the best we've had. We thought it might be too far from Cornwall, but the trip was absolutely worth it. We can't recommend this place enough.

The reviews I'd read before booking left me expecting more, so I was disappointed. Paula is warm and friendly and works incredibly hard. The place is spotless and nicely decorated, but the bed was very uncomfortable, and our room felt small and dark. The view was unkempt. It's not much of a farm now, just a few goats, and the B&B sits on a busy main road where getting in and out can be tricky. At £130 per room per night, the plentiful continental breakfast is included, but that's instant tea or coffee. Machine drinks and a freshly made cooked breakfast cost extra, with the cooked option priced at £6.50.

Paula made it feel like home, such a lovely, friendly and helpful person. Everything was immaculate, and we loved the gardens, rooms, pond, outdoor seating and woodburners. The breakfasts were fabulous too. It's close to Bude and to the main roads linking Devon with south Cornwall. Wonderful place. Thanks from Amanda, Neil and Hazey xxx
