The village is pleasant and the staff are nice, but the restaurant was a real disappointment. It’s nothing like the place with quality Norfolk fayre that we remember. The food was basic at best and far too expensive. A small slice of bruschetta with tinned tomatoes cost £9 as a starter, and a small Diet Coke was £4.00.

It was a busy evening, but we managed to book a table in the bar area, where we found a lovely, warm atmosphere by the log burner. My partner had a voucher, and we both really enjoyed the meal. The mains were perfectly cooked. I’m more of a starter person, but he talked me into dessert, and I’m glad he did since there were two of his favourites to choose from. I had the coffee mouse, which was delicious, though the unusual sponge crumble topping wasn’t for me. I pushed it aside and would have preferred less of it, or for it to be on the base. My partner loved his brownie, his favourite dessert. The waiting staff deserve a special mention. They were friendly, professional and attentive, and the girls worked hard while keeping their heads up. They were easy to get hold of when we needed them. I can see why it was so busy. I’m looking forward to going back, and would recommend booking. We were lucky to get a table as just a couple.

We first stopped in for drinks at Christmas, then came back for a family meal the following week. It was so nice, with delicious, mouthwatering food, amazing decor and brilliant staff. Dogs are welcome in the bar. A hidden gem, and we’ll be back!

The only thing that kept this from being five stars was the room. Some of the artex finish was missing, and there was mould on the bathroom ceiling, which was a shame because everything else was close to perfect. We stayed one night with breakfast included and booked dinner as well. The staff were great from the moment we arrived, friendly, polite and helpful. The food was really good, made with quality, locally sourced ingredients at reasonable prices. The bar also had a great drink selection, including a big partnership with local brewers Lacons. Our room was comfortable and warm, with a great bath and shower. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could.

It had been quite a while since our last visit, and it was great to be back. The food was excellent, the service quick, and the staff attentive. We sat in the bar area, which was a bit noisy, but the meal and service made up for that. We’ll come again and ask for a table in the restaurant proper next time.
