Ladybower Inn

The double room was OK, though the windows were painted shut. It all felt a bit tired and in need of an update, and the pub had no atmosphere. The food didn't impress either. Portions were modest, and my wife's steak pie had such a hard crust that it was inedible. Other diners we asked agreed about theirs. With such a small menu, I expected better quality food cooked to order, but that wasn't what we got. I wouldn't recommend it in its current state.

The service was excellent and the location was brilliant, but the food was a letdown. The Sunday lunch was tiny, even with the vegetable sides. I paid £22 for something worth about £13. My partner and my friend's partner both called their beef sandwiches “sad”. Each was one slice of beef in sliced white bread, and very small. Even the chip butty came in a Warburtons bread bun. For the price, none of it was special. We won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend eating here after a long walk. If you expect more from eating out than a packed lunch, you'll be disappointed. A homemade packed lunch would be cold, but better quality, bigger and a fraction of the cost.

Jonnathon made us feel welcome and looked after us well. I stayed with a friend before a hike nearby, and the clean, welcoming hotel was good value. I'd recommend it and look forward to coming back.

The breakfast included in the price was amazing, and the shower was the best I've had at any hotel or pub. Our room was modern, beautiful and good value. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do more to help. It's a beautiful spot, with free parking, a dog-friendly pub and lots of great Peak District walks right on the doorstep.
