We had to book ahead for High Tea, and it was amazing. The tea room is small but cosy, with a rustic feel, and the staff looked after us the whole time. They handled a dairy allergy in our family really well. The sandwiches, scones, and tea were delicious, and you could tell everything was made fresh in-house. I’d recommend it.

Breakfast was great, with excellent coffee and delicious, generous portions in a cosy side room off the pub. The decor was charming and cosy, the room adequate and clean, and the staff worked hard, though they seemed tired after a long Easter break with guests. This was our last night of a three-day walk in the area. The mattress was very soft and sagged badly. From check-in until we finally complained, heavy metal music from the kitchen and a loud extractor fan just outside our room made things unpleasant. They turned the music down when we asked, but it continued until around 9:30. The toilet also flushed very loudly. The pub is on a fairly busy, fast road, and perhaps the rooms away from the kitchen are nicer. I might give it another chance, but I wouldn’t be eager to return.

The roast was packed with flavour and tasted homemade, easily the best I’ve had in a long time, maybe the best roast dinner I’ve eaten out. The beef came in slices with different levels of rareness, and the potatoes were incredible. I was glad it came with parsnips and cabbage, since I always include those in my own roast but not many restaurants do. They were also incredibly dog friendly. My dog got lots of affection and treats and was treated so well. I’d definitely recommend it.

We all ordered the Derbyshire breakfast, which was filling and decent value. The old hall cafe/ tea room beside the pub was our first stop for breakfast on a day out on the motorbikes. I’d definitely come back.

The roast was delicious and generously packed, and the pub had a great local feel. They were incredibly welcoming to dogs, the most dog friendly pub I’ve been in. They even gave our little pup some roast beef, which was so kind. Great food, and I’d definitely recommend it.
