We shared the tempura mushroom with smoky chilli sauce to start. There was plenty for two, and it was delicious. For mains we both had trout with asparagus, a gorgeous sauce and tiny new potatoes, plus a side of chargrilled hispi cabbage. We enjoyed it all. The food at the Ginger Pig was excellent when I went with a friend on 26 May. The waiting staff were friendly, efficient, attentive and knowledgeable. We couldn’t fit in pudding, though they looked great. Full marks, and a huge thank you to Katie.

We felt looked after throughout our Sunday lunch, and the welcome from the staff was so warm. The food was exceptional, and the service was a 10 out of 10. Nothing was too much trouble. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Ginger Pig x

Every dish we tried was five stars, and Francesco was attentive, really friendly, and gave us good recommendations. It was our first time at The Ginger Pig, after visits to The Ginger Man and The Flint house, so we expected good food and service. We weren’t let down. We were sad to hear The Ginger Man is closing, but glad we’ve found The pig as a place to keep visiting. Thanks to the whole team for making dinner such a lovely experience.

The breakfast was delicious and well cooked, and the tart tatin with rum raisin ice cream was crisp, caramelised and worth waiting for. We stayed overnight and ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The place is clean and modern, and only a two-minute walk from the beach. Service was welcoming and attentive. The rooms were reasonably priced, though parking across the road cost extra. The room was unbearably hot on a warm spring night, even with the windows wide open and the AC running on full in cool mode at 18 degrees. Maybe it hadn’t been serviced for a while, and being on the top floor may have made it worse. Facing the main road, the room was also extremely noisy with the window open. Dinner was a letdown. My husband’s £42 pork chop had chewy, unrendered fat, overcooked and underseasoned meat, and a thin sauce. It came without sides, which had to be ordered separately. I understand the ingredients come from reputable suppliers, but at that price we expected perfection and a complete meal. We paid another £10 for mash and cabbage. We might return for breakfast if we’re in the area again, but wouldn’t pay for an expensive dinner or another overnight stay.

We booked Ginger Pig in November for our May wedding, initially taking the whole restaurant. When the situation in the Middle East affected flights and many guests couldn’t come, we switched to the Private Dining space. That meant changing to a set menu and reworking the decor and seating, among other things. The team handled every change brilliantly. Communication was clear, prompt, polite and generous, and everything was ready early on the day, just as I’d asked. We didn’t have to check in or worry about arrangements. Meals came on time, everyone’s requests were accommodated, and the food was fabulous. I loved the arancini, mushroom tempura sambal and dark chocolate cremeux. I also had three glasses of the new seasonal cocktail, the Butterfly Effect, wow. Our guests had lovely things to say too. Cleanup was quick, with no work for us. I also booked the Mews Houses for us and our families. Some relatives had travelled from overseas and stayed four nights. The houses are spacious, very clean, thoughtfully cared for, with all the amenities you could want and plenty of privacy. For a smaller, micro wedding, I’d highly recommend Ginger Pig and booking the Mews Houses as well. Brighton council can provide the registrar to officiate. The team are very professional. I’ve heard horror stories about bad vendors and witnessed some myself, but that wasn’t our experience. They clearly knew the process better than we did, while still making the event feel tailored to us. At our first meeting they asked what we wanted, rather than telling us what they could deliver. Special thanks to Grace, Maria, Francisco, Anya, and the service, housekeeping and kitchen teams for making our day, and week, so comfortable, delightful and special.
