Cedar Court Huddersfield

We had a great stay at the Cedar Court Huddersfield and would book again. Our room was clean and really nice, with a view of Ainsley Top houses. Check-in was quick, and the staff we met were professional and friendly. We only booked the room, so we didn’t eat there. Parking costs £4 per night.

The staff handled my late check-out request professionally, but the call around noon asking if we were still in the room felt rude and unnecessary. I’d paid £20 for a 1pm check-out because we were attending a funeral, and I was trying to process that at the time. The stay was mixed, with room for a lot of improvement, especially around guests with dogs: either welcome them properly or don’t, as we felt isolated and were put at a table in the lobby near people gathering for a speed awareness course, with no privacy. Breakfast had its good and bad points. The omelette was fantastic, but my partner’s cooked breakfast seemed to include deep-fried sausages, and one item had clearly been under the heat lamp. At dinner, the main course was OK, though my partner’s food was partly cold. We heard the bell about five minutes before the food arrived. The advertised pear and apple crumble was a disaster: it came as a rock-hard shop-bought pastry case with a little fruit and barely any crumble, nothing like the dish described and inedible. I sent it back, and the waitress dealt with it very professionally and took it off the bill. Check-in itself was pleasant and easy, though the booking email gave two different check-in times, which I checked with the hotel before arriving. The room was tidy and clean, but the bathroom needs repair and updating. There were several mould spots around the bath, the wall-mounted hand soap splattered over the counter, and some fixtures needed tightening or fixing. In the restaurant, the arrangements for people with dogs weren’t clear, and most bar seating was too low for eating a meal, though fine for drinks.

The hotel itself is good, and the rooms are clean and modern. My pizza was inedible, so I didn’t eat it. When I complained, the manager came over instead of anyone apologising or offering a refund. She gathered the staff around me and made the exchange feel intimidating, essentially brushing off what I’d said. If the food isn’t up to standard, don’t expect your complaint to be taken seriously.

The food was amazing, and the staff were pleasant throughout the evening. It’s a lovely, luxurious place and very clean. I arrived by taxi for a works Christmas party, and as I got out, a man in a golf cart asked if I needed a lift to the front door. It was a short ride around the back.
