The food was really nice, but we had to track someone down from downstairs to get serving utensils for the salad and coleslaw. At breakfast, staffing was short again. We ordered full English breakfasts and asked for black pudding. The plates arrived without that, mushrooms or tomatoes. We were told they had no black pudding and that the mushrooms and tomatoes would take five minutes, but they turned up as we were finishing. We’d expected more given the previous owner’s reputation, and the service fell short. We’d hired an upstairs room for about 40 people, but they initially gave us only the small bar area. When we questioned the size, they started opening and setting up the adjoining lounge. There was just one person on the upstairs bar. That was manageable until a barrel needed changing, when they disappeared for about 15 minutes. I tried the downstairs bar and found nobody serving there either, with several people waiting. It seemed to have only one bar person as well, despite the event being expected. The man working upstairs was great, but management left him in the lurch. For such a lovely place, the service needs to be better.

Dinner in the pub was very good, and the open fire gave it a lovely atmosphere. There are some great walks nearby, though one section on the six mile route is a bit misleading, so watch out for that. We had a lovely overnight stay for my birthday. The room was nice, although the ceiling creaked a lot from the room above. Breakfast was nice too. Highly recommended.

The food was top-notch, from the evening meal to the delicious breakfast the next morning. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was great. We stayed at The Woodman Inn for a Christmas party, and even with all the festivities and a very busy venue, the staff stayed welcoming and friendly. Our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. I’d definitely recommend it for a meal or a stay in the area.

We’ve stayed at the Woodman more than 20 times and it’s never let us down. The whole team is great, and we always feel welcome. Jordan the General Manager and Ben the Bar Manger are especially helpful and always make time for a catch up. The staff are polite, attentive and very helpful. The evening meal was fantastic, breakfast lovely, and the atmosphere is great.

A lovely clean place with a great pub atmosphere. The room was lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food and breakfast were both really tasty. We had a lovely overnight stay and will be back.
