I liked the easy self-service setup, and the resident neighbours next door were welcoming. There’s a huge kitchen with laundry facilities and working fridges, plus a nice sun conservatory, a little pond and a chapel where you can rest. We had a private double room with its own bathroom. The grounds are beautiful, with a park and shops nearby for a wander. It felt more relaxed and nicer than many of the box hotels in the city centre.

I’ll definitely be back for work. For a mid-budget stay in Hull, this is easily the nicest location. You get an email beforehand with the security door codes and room details, so remember to check it. The walk to the room takes you past original wood-panelled walls and solid old-school wooden floors. My double en-suite was clean, bright and pleasingly minimalist, and the bed was very, very comfortable. The shared grounds include nearby flats and accommodation, but the residents were friendly when I saw them. Parking is free and more than adequate, a big bonus these days. I didn’t use the kitchen, but it looked impressive and was spotless.

The internet was very fast, and the heating worked perfectly. Still, there were plenty of gaps, though the place has some promise for the future. There’s no reception, so I was lucky to find a friendly contractor who showed me to the office. You’ll get the details and access codes by email, so make sure you check it. The building itself is lovely, with old wooden walls and stairs, but the management seems weak and greedy. The work appears to have been done on a low budget and with poor quality. The mattress was one of the worst I’ve slept on, with the springs and wires clearly felt, making it impossible to sleep. The sheets were worn, though they smelled fresh. Plastic blinds didn’t look as good as curtains or drapes might, but maybe I expected too much. The redone wooden floor looks good, but the work is poor, with gaps between the planks, which is a shame. The room could use a desk or table and chair, though I could manage without them. The bathroom was fairly clean, but the towels looked used and had hair on them, so I gave up on showering. I’d rather stay in my own dirt than use someone else’s. The bathroom light sensor was faulty, leaving the light on all night and wasting electricity. The corridor got very loud when people walked through; a carpet might help reduce the noise, though I assume they’ll sort it out in time. Fingers crossed.

I spent 2-3 months at Endsleigh park hotel while working in Hull, and it was an excellent place to stay. The rooms were tidy and clean, warm, and peaceful, with warm showers. The cooking facilities were excellent for making your own meals, and the prices were good. Staff were professional, helpful, and a real credit to the hotel. They were very accommodating when I needed to add weekends or extra days to my booking.

The only real plus was the fairly modern bathroom, along with the polite ghost, possibly a French nun. My partner was coming upstairs and opened the door when a woman's voice said “merci beaucoup,” but nobody was there. He felt a cold sensation across his shoulders. He wasn't scared, just shocked, and no, he wasn't drunk. If you're a ghost hunter, it might be worth staying for the experience. The location was good and it was clean, but it felt more like a hostel than a hotel: very basic, with drafty windows, uncomfortable beds, a shared kitchen and no tea or coffee facilities in the room.
