We were stuck with this apartment over a bank holiday weekend after arriving late on Friday, when finding somewhere else was impossible because we also had a wedding to attend. The owner knew before we arrived that previous guests had damaged the place, but nobody told us until we got there. The cleaner was meant to come the next day, but didn’t show up until the morning we were leaving. The place was in a bad state. The hallways and rear passage were full of rubbish and unused apartment items. The floors hadn’t been vacuumed or mopped, there were dirty towels in the wardrobe, and I found herbal substance in a drawer in the bedroom where my 11-year-old daughter was sleeping. The settee had a big dent and tear, and collapsed when sat on because its legs were broken. One toilet seat was broken too. We only noticed the soggy toilet rolls on the ceiling in the bathroom on our last morning, since we hadn’t used it before. The manager tried to suggest we’d done that, which felt like a cheeky way to avoid refunding us. She then said we should leave and get a refund, but there was no apology. My booking had already been cancelled, so I had to rebook directly with the property. I was promised a refund or compensation several times and never received anything. I found that really rude.
